Professional business email on your own domain in Cameroon

Opesware sets up professional email for Cameroonian companies: a .cm or .com domain in your name, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 mailboxes, migration of existing mail, and the DNS records that keep your invoices and quotes out of the spam folder.

In short

The best professional email for most Cameroonian businesses is Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 on the company’s own .cm or .com domain, configured correctly. Opesware, in Douala, registers or transfers the domain in your name, sets up the mailboxes, migrates old Gmail, Yahoo or hosting mail, publishes SPF, DKIM and DMARC records so messages reach the inbox, and trains staff in English or French.

What you get

Your own domain

name@yourcompany.cm or .com instead of a free Gmail or Yahoo address, registered in your company’s name with you holding the access.

Google Workspace or Microsoft 365

We help you choose, then configure users, groups, shared mailboxes, calendars and phone access on the platform you pick.

Migration without lost mail

Existing mailboxes, contacts and calendars moved from free accounts, web hosting or another provider, with a planned switch-over date.

SPF, DKIM and DMARC

DNS records that prove your mail is genuine, so invoices, quotes and tender documents reach the inbox instead of spam.

Security basics

Two-step verification, admin roles, recovery options and a clean exit process when staff leave, so mailboxes remain company property.

Website and DNS in one place

Domain, DNS, website hosting and email managed as one coherent setup, documented and handed over to you.

Why professional email on your own domain matters in Cameroon

Tender committees, banks, foreign suppliers and large clients judge a company partly by its email address. A quote sent from a free Gmail or Yahoo account looks less credible than one from @yourcompany.cm, and when an employee leaves with a personal address, the client relationship can leave too. A company domain keeps every mailbox under the company’s control.

The extension is a branding choice. A .cm domain signals a Cameroonian business; the .cm extension is administered nationally by ANTIC and sold through accredited registrars. A .com suits companies selling across CEMAC or abroad, and many businesses hold both and redirect one to the other. Either way, register the domain in the company’s name and send renewal notices to an address the company controls: when a domain expires, email stops the same day.

Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 for a company in Cameroon?

Both are solid choices. Google Workspace suits teams that work in the browser and on Android phones; Microsoft 365 suits companies that depend on Word, Excel and the Outlook desktop app, or already run Windows servers. Both are billed per user, generally in foreign currency, so check early how your company will pay. The subscription is bought from Google or Microsoft, or one of their authorised resellers, and stays in your company’s name; we advise on the choice and configure the platform.

For very small teams, mailboxes included with web hosting can be enough, provided the authentication records are set correctly and backups are planned. We also connect the domain to your website; see our website development page.

Why your business emails land in spam, and how to fix it

  • SPF lists the servers allowed to send mail for your domain.
  • DKIM signs each message so the receiver can check it was not altered.
  • DMARC tells receiving servers what to do with mail that fails those checks, and sends you reports.
  • Website forms and software that send mail in your name, such as invoicing or POS receipts, must be included in those records too.

Large mailbox providers now expect these records, especially from businesses that send a lot of mail. Missing or wrong records are the most common reason Cameroonian companies tell us their invoices go to spam. Fake emails that imitate your domain are a security issue as well; our cybersecurity team can train staff to spot phishing.

How to choose the right professional email and domain hosting

  1. Register the domain in your company’s name and keep the registrar login yourself.
  2. Choose Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 according to how your staff actually work.
  3. Ask for SPF, DKIM and DMARC to be published and tested before you announce the new addresses.
  4. Plan the migration of existing mailboxes so no client email is lost during the switch.
  5. Turn on two-step verification for every user, starting with the administrators.
  6. Set a renewal routine so the domain and licences never expire unnoticed.
  7. Get a written record of DNS settings, admin accounts and who to call for support.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best business email provider in Cameroon?

For most companies, Google Workspace or Microsoft 365 on your own domain. The bigger difference is the setup: domain registered in your name, SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured, mailboxes migrated and two-step verification turned on. Opesware in Douala handles that setup in English or French.

Should I choose a .cm or a .com domain?

A .cm domain signals a Cameroonian company and suits a local customer base; a .com suits businesses selling across CEMAC or abroad. Many companies register both and redirect one to the other. What matters most is that the domain is registered in the company’s name.

Why are my emails going to spam?

Usually because the domain has no SPF, DKIM or DMARC records, or they are wrong; because mail goes out from a shared server with a poor reputation; or because a website form or software sends mail in your name without authentication. Checking the DNS records and every sending path fixes most cases.

Can you move our old Gmail or Yahoo emails to the new company mailboxes?

In most cases, yes: messages, contacts and calendars can be migrated to Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. We test the migration on one mailbox first, then plan the switch so no incoming mail is lost.

How much does professional email cost in Cameroon?

There are three parts: the yearly domain registration, which depends on the extension and registrar; the per-user licences charged by Google or Microsoft; and one-off setup work, which depends on the number of users, the volume of mail to migrate and how many systems send mail in your name.
