IT consultancy in Cameroon that starts from your business, not from a product

Good IT consultancy in Cameroon begins with how your organisation actually works: who records sales, where stock is counted, how payroll reaches the CNPS, which reports the DGI and your auditors expect, and what happens when the power or the internet goes down. Opesware’s consultants sit with your teams in Douala, or meet them remotely and on scheduled visits elsewhere in Cameroon and the CEMAC region, and map those processes before recommending any technology. The aim is a plan you can fund and run, written in plain English or French, rather than a slide deck full of tools you will never use.

Typical starting points include a company still running on Excel files and WhatsApp groups, a group with branches that cannot see consolidated figures, a hospital or school choosing a management system, or a business preparing for an audit, a fundraise or a tax inspection that has exposed weak records.

How a consultancy engagement runs

  1. Discovery. Interviews with management and with the people who do the daily work, a review of current software, hardware, network and data, and a list of the problems that cost you time or money.
  2. Options and trade-offs. For each need we compare realistic routes: an off-the-shelf product, configuring one of our own systems, a custom build, or simply fixing a process. We explain the running costs in FCFA, the skills you will need in-house and the risks of each route.
  3. Roadmap. A phased plan that puts quick, low-risk wins first and sequences bigger projects such as ERP, cloud migration or a new network so that daily operations are not disrupted.
  4. Delivery or support. You can carry out the plan with your own team or another supplier, or ask Opesware to implement it. Because we are also a software development company, our advice is tested against what can actually be built, hosted and supported locally.

Local realities we design around

  • Compliance first. Accounting must follow revised SYSCOHADA, invoices and declarations must respect the Code Général des Impôts (VAT, withholding, DGI filings), and payroll must calculate CNPS contributions and IRPP correctly. We check any system you are considering against these rules before you sign, and point you to our own SYSCOHADA accounting software or ERP only where they genuinely fit.
  • Connectivity and power. Branches in smaller towns may have unstable internet and frequent cuts. We favour offline-first applications that sync when the link returns, sensible backup power and local copies of critical data.
  • Payments. Customers and staff pay and are paid with MTN MoMo and Orange Money as well as bank transfers and cash, so we plan Mobile Money integration and reconciliation from the start.
  • Data protection and security. Patient files, student records, payroll and customer data need access control, backups and an incident plan. Where the risk is high we recommend a cybersecurity audit before new systems go live.
  • Bilingual teams. Documentation, training and interfaces can be in English, French or both, which matters for organisations working across regions.

Who it is for and how to begin

Our consultancy work suits owner-managed SMEs, growing groups with several sites, schools and universities, clinics and hospitals, NGOs and public bodies, as well as diaspora investors setting up operations in Cameroon. Where a project also involves creating the legal entity, we connect the IT plan with company registration in Cameroon and the tax and CNPS set-up that follows. For a fuller picture of how we combine advice and delivery, see our page on IT consultancy in Cameroon and our consulting overview. To start, describe your situation through the quote form or call our Douala office; we will suggest a first scoping conversation and tell you what information to prepare.

Frequently asked questions

What does an IT consultant do for a business in Cameroon?

An IT consultant reviews how your business uses technology, identifies what is slowing you down or creating risk, and recommends what to buy, build, fix or stop. At Opesware this covers software selection, ERP and accounting systems, cloud and network planning, cybersecurity and compliance with SYSCOHADA, the CGI and CNPS, and we can also implement the recommendations.

Can Opesware help us choose between off-the-shelf software and a custom system?

Yes. We compare a ready-made product, one of our own configurable systems and a custom build against your processes, budget and compliance needs, and explain the trade-offs in running cost, flexibility and support before you decide.

Do you offer IT consultancy outside Douala?

Yes. We work on site in Douala and remotely with scheduled visits across Cameroon, and we advise organisations in Gabon, the Republic of the Congo, Chad, the Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea, as well as diaspora clients.

How much does IT consultancy cost in Cameroon?

It depends on scope: a focused review of one system is very different from a group-wide transformation plan. We agree the scope and deliverables first and then quote in FCFA. Describe your needs through the quote form to get started.

Can the consultancy be delivered in French?

Yes. Workshops, reports and recommendations can be delivered in English, French or both, depending on your team.
